Leadership Day reflection

Recently the year 6 cohort got together with the Carey Donvale year 6s and we had our leadership day. Every year the year 6s come together and they do fun activities in a group. All of the groups have a colour. My teams colour was black but then we had to change into white shirts because there wasn’t enough blacks tops.

All of the activities were ran by the staff. Some of the activities we did were a planking competition, in that we had to have more than half of your team planking at once. For us we had to have 6 people planking at once, unfortunately we got disqualified first. Another activity we did was a brain talk with Jen Dooley which was mainly about our number 1 and 2 brain and our comfort zone, stretch zone and danger zone. We also talked about how we know we are in these zones and how we get out of them.

An activity that made me learn how I am as an individual was definitely the brain talk with Jen because it made me think about what makes me comfortable and what doesn’t. The activity that made me think about how I am was the planking competition because in that we had to use a lot of communication because if we didn’t we would get disqualified.

Overall I had a great time and I’m disappointed that we don’t get to do it again. Continue reading “Leadership Day reflection”

My favourite book chat book of 2019

My favourite book chat of 2019 has been Con-nerd, written by Oliver Phomavan. The genres of Con-nerd were definitely humour and young adult.

Con-nerd is about a kid called Connor who is a well a nerd who lives in Australia but is actually from Asia. He has a friend who always calls him con-nerd which is were he gets his name from. Connors’s mum has really high expectations for him because when Connor’s mum is at work all of her friends talk about how much there children have achieved. His mum wants him to be a doctor but Connor really wants to be a artist and at one point he even made a his own comic series called fire proof knights. And connor had to keep his art secret a secret from his mum and when she eventually found out she took away all of Connor’s art supplies and Connor gave up but his friend kept on trying to encourage him to start drawing again and Connor ended up entering an art competition. Unfortunately he did not win but he was mentioned for having an amazing piece of art. His mum ended up hearing about this and she was actually really proud of Connor.

Some reasons why I loved this book were that it was really easy to understand and had great yet simple detail that just left wanting to keep reading and seeing what was on the next page and what would happen next. At one point I would read until my eyes started to close. And by the way I’m not the biggest fan of reading but I still really enjoyed this book.

My avatar

This is my avatar. My avatar has brown hair just like my actual hair, blue eyes just like mine and a tank top just like the one I always wear because I hate jumpers. The background is a kind of pixel type because I like to play games like Minecraft and Fortnite with my friends and it’s blue because it’s my favourite colour.

What makes a good information book

A good information book must have clear and easily understandable information, because if it is not clear, the reader will not understand what is being said and will most likely stop reading the book.

It also must have a source at the front or back of the book telling the reader where or who the author got the information from because if it does not people will just think that the author has made it up.

It also must have pictures that describe and match the text. They must all be in good positions so that it is appealing to the reader. For example make believe has the information about the picture on one page and on the other is the picture that it’s describing.

My favourite shortlisted book was make believe because it had a lot of cool mind boggling pictures that make you think really hard. It’s also a great book because it is really well set out because on one page there is information about the picture and on the other is the picture.

Sovereign Hill reflection

Recently the year 5s went on a camp. We went to Sovereign Hill. Sovereign Hill is a replica of the developing town Ballarat during the gold rush.

Some cool things that I learnt at were that at school girls and boys were only allowed to play with certain toys. And that boys back wore way different clothes to what we wear now, the boys had to wear knickerbockers, a shirt, a jacket, a neckerchief and a cap. I also learnt that grades at schools back then wear decided by height so if you were tall you would be a grade 5 and if you were small you would be a grade 2.

My favourite part of the camp was definitely the school program because I liked learning how to write in copperplate although it was hard it was fun  because it was something out of the ordinary because at normal school we never get the cain or belt and we don’t have to write with ink pens that we have to dip in a ink well.

Some of the PLAs I showed during the camp were perseverance when I was gold because in the end I didn’t find any gold but when I didn’t find it the first time or the second or the third I didn’t just give up and go to the waterloo shop and buy some I kept going and didn’t give up. Another PLA I showed was courage when I was at school when we had to do copperplate handwriting I didn’t just say no I don’t want to do this. I didn’t say it for two reasons, reason one I had to otherwise I would get in trouble and second I wanted to try something new, something I haven’t ever done.

Honestly I don’t think that I can improve the school program. I think it’s good as it is. I couldn’t make it any better.

CCL reflection

On the 6th of June Carey had a literature Festival. It was great there was a treasure hunt, footy activity and you could buy some books. Also each year level got to meet a famous author

My favourite part of the festival was the Specky McGee activate because I love footy and my favourite part of the activity was the marking bit because I loved jumping up and trying to catch the ball in the air. It was awesome! Another bit I liked was the treasure hunt. In that you had to go around and find a bunch of book covers and names and when you found them all I think you got a prize.

The most interesting thing I learnt during the Mark Wilson presentation was that all is stories are based on family and friends that he knows like the book I saw nothing was based on a dying species of dog. Also he loves to help the environment. He is actually in a charity that tries to save dying out species.

Fizz inc print ad

During literacy and integrated we have been making print ads for our upcoming year 5 market. We have also been focusing on what makes a good ad and what makes a quality ad. Ever person from each group had to make a print ad for their group. All ads had to include at least 2-5 of the groups products.

Here is my print ad for my group.
